
I've worked with a lot of parents who only want one thing... To give their baby the best.
A healthy pregnancy.
A safe birth.
Proper feedings.
Safe sleep.
Emotional security.
Healthy Development.

Oftentimes, this leads to seeking expert advice, an obstetrician, a pediatrician, a sleep trainer or nowadays an influencer who has the results they want.
While every professional has their expertise and place in your care team & support system. . . there are really big gaps in evidence based information and advice. On top of that you have the whole internet available to you and may not realize some of that advice is inaccurate, unsafe or in conflict with your goals.

If your blood pressure crashes after an epidural, you want that care team to fix that problem.
If you need a cesarean, you want a compassionate OB.
If you’re in your second year of waking multiple times a night, it might be time to get help from a sleep coach.
A problem arises though, when the advice doesn’t work together. I see this so often in my work as a Newborn Care Specialist. People want to have baby sleep 12 hours by 12 weeks...and they want to breastfeed to 12 months. The math just doesn't math in that circumstance.
Another problem is when information given is out-of-date such as adding oatmeal or rice to a bottle, a circumstance where we know it brings danger. It can look like avoiding fish during pregnancy, when we know that 12 ounces of low-mercury fish actually IMPROVES baby's brain development. It can also look like consenting to cervical checks at prenatal appointments when it has NO evidence based benefits, and a handful of risks.
That’s the value I bring as a digital doula. I pay the dues (literally) and stay up-to-date on the evidence on topics that affect your baby’s development, your pregnancy, birth, postpartum and newborn development.
Here is what's different about me. I'm not trying to usurp the role of your midwife, obstetrician or MFM specialist. Nor am I taking on the role of lactation consultant or pediatrician. I am supporting you with evidence to be an active partner in your care and virtually standing there with you to tap into your own intuition as mom. Evidence + Intuition, it's kinda my jam. You're probably so excited about welcoming your baby into your home, if you're like most moms you're probably flipping through a few books, you've download some apps, and listening to your friend's and family's experience. You're probably doing your part to be a star patient for your doctor or midwife.I totally get that, and this is actually a problem because you're going to get you varied, sometimes conflicting advice that might not even work for your circumstance, and here is the kicker: lots of time's it not evidence-based guidance.
